Welcome to WYOMING EXPEDITIONS where we Specialize in ELK HUNTING.
Our focus is the fair chase, spot and stalk hunting of the “Wyoming Wapiti” during the fall rut and winter migration.
LOCATION
Wyoming Expeditions is located 9 miles from the SE corner of Yellowstone National Park in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Our camp is set in the majestic scenery of the Thorofare River drainage. The elevation of camp is around 8500 feet and the tree line ends about 10,000 feet. GPS Coordinates are: 44 deg. 05 minutes, 19.41 sec. N by 109 deg. 49 minutes, 52.07 sec. W.

ABOUT THE HUNT
Wyoming Expeditions offers 8 day hunting trips with one day to travel to camp, 6 days of hunting and one day to travel back to Cody, WY. This is a remote wilderness hunt where there are no roads, no man-made structures, and no cell towers. No gas powered equipment is allowed on forest land. Our vehicles are horses and mules: no ATV’s. Wyoming Expeditions provides our hunters with knowledgeable guides, a camp cook for hot meals (even desserts), and a wrangler to have your horse or mule saddled and ready. Spacious canvas-walled tents with foam padded cots and a wood burning stove to keep warm are our “suites”. Ride out of camp every morning into some of the most beautiful mountain country that God created. The preferred hunting method is to glass, call, spot, and stalk, but we will accommodate our hunter’s preference. Elk in our area are very vocal and respond well to calls, especially in the early, rut hunts. In the later or migration hunts, there are still some bulls bugling.
WHAT MAKES OUR HUNTING AREA SO GOOD?
1) Wyoming Expeditions is located in Wyoming where there is a limited number of elk tags issued each year. Tags are “drawn” for by Wyoming Game and Fish in a lottery draw in February of each year. By limiting the number of elk tags available, WY Game and Fish manages the elk herds so that each year, there are quality elk to harvest.
2) The Thorofare River drainage where we are located is in Elk Area 60. Our area is roughly 9 miles by 6 miles (54 square miles). This is a large area and does not put a lot of pressure on the elk here for the number of hunters we take in on each hunt.
3) Yellowstone National Park is 9 miles away where there is no hunting on their 2.2 million acres. Elk freely move between Yellowstone and the Thorofare.
4) To get to our camp, we ride by horse/mule approximately 7 hours. Twenty miles as the ‘crow flies’. There is no pavement here.
5) There is a lot of grass growing for plenty of food for the elk to graze on. Even in the wooded areas, there is grass growing.
6) The Yellowstone Elk herd migration passes through our area on the way to the winter grounds.
